Dvořák, Symphony No. 9 From the New World

Tchaikovsky, Strauss and Dvořák: composers who shaped the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tchaikovsky’s sweeping emotional style, Strauss’ rich harmonies with dramatic orchestration and  Dvořák’s evocative melodies left an indelible mark on classical music. Join the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for a magnificent evening of orchestral storytelling under the baton of Anna Sułkowska Migoń, who recently led the orchestra for Cinematic Classics and The Elements of Genius: Kreisler & McCormack.

The evening begins with Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, which vividly captures the passion, drama, and tragedy of Shakespeare’s timeless tale – an overture now iconic across film soundtracks and popular culture.

RTÉ CO oboist Suzie Thorn then takes centre stage for Strauss’ Oboe Concerto, a work of exquisite elegance and winding technicality. Strauss, a master of opera, brought an operatic, expressive quality to the concerto, when writing it in 1945 during his late creative period.

This rich programme of Late Romantic music concludes with Dvořák’s New World Symphony, imbued with thrill and nostalgia in equal measures.

Presented by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
